The theory and practice of School Mental Health Education (SMHE) , a modern educational idea and new activity, has developed greatly since the 1950s. There has not been any systematic study on content and approaches of SMHE conducted in schools of Garze Prefecture.The 21st century and development of economy and culture of Garze Prefecture require a healthy mental quality for students. And, middle school stage is the primer time for the formation and development of mental quality for students, therefore it's necessary to investigate the students' present state of mental health and meditate on the content and approaches of SMHE.The study took Kangding Middle School as object and used case study, combined with interview, observation, data-analysis and questionnaire. Based on the careful investigation and analysis, it proposed mental health education of Kangding Middle School should include: psychology of learning, interpersonal communication psychoeducation, person-self education, sex psychoeducation and social adaptation education. It also analyzed the causes to the students' psychological problems using the basic theory and methods of Pedagogy Education and Psychology and drew the conclusion that those problems resulted from combined functions of school, family and society; furthermore, Tibetan students were influenced by passive elements in their national culture. Henceforth, it put forward the approaches of SMHE as follow: establishing restraining mechanism, setting up psychological services institute, opening mental health education web site, and conducting mental health consultation and counseling activities to build appropriate school environment, simultaneously optimizing family and social environment.
