From the perspective of the relationship between Chinese and foreign literature, this thesis observes the reception history of Oscar Wilde's Fairy Tales in China in the 20th century in accordance with the time order. Meanwhile, it is also compared with its reception overlook in the Western countries in different periods of the 20th century in order to reach the inner reasons for which there are a variety of differences under the two reception contexts. Thus reveals what are the influential elements in the course of the exchange of literature. In Chapter One, based on his extraordinary life style and peculiar epoch environment, Oscar Wilde's Fairy Tales ,which is marked with aestheticism and being for both children and adults, is clearly analyzed. Chapter Two, being based on the emergence of the style of Fairy tale ,examines the open reception in England in the early age and the special literary phenomenon that his fairy tales were received only as adults' literature in China before liberation so that the objective and reasonable explanations can be given to the distinctive features of reception in China.Chapter Three probes into the different ways of understanding the fairy tales in Western countries and in China as well after the establishment of the People's Republic of China. While the multicultural study to his fairy tales has been carried in the Western literary arena, we have been carrying forward the traditional criticism ---humanitarianism which has existed constantly since the May 4th Movement towards the fairy tales. In this chapter, the main focus is on the elements that lead to the divergence in understanding the same texts and which restrict the development in our studies on the fairy tales. The conclusion summarizes the present thesis. Through the above analysis, we understand there has been existing the misunderstanding on the texts and lopsided view of the works' reception in China. It can be explained by the theory of creative treason by receptors and reception contexts in Medio-translatology and beyond it. The fact that his fairy tales have been accepted as before can be analyzed by the characters of the style of Fairy tale. The study of the reception of Oscar Wilde's Fairy Tales in China in the 20th century provides us a chance to understand today's Chinese Children's Literature.
