In this thesis, we targets foreign students with medium or advanced level of Chinese as its subjects. This research has examined the cognition of foreign students about Chinese buzzwords from the aspects of contact, understand, use and attitude by questionnaire survey. The research has discovered the law of cognitive about Chinese buzzwords for foreign students, and has analyzed the factors that affect cognition. The result shows that:1. The contact condition of foreign student about Chinese buzzwords is better. Students are all used some buzzwords more or less. But the foreign students do not understand the semantics of buzzwords well. Difficult to distinguish different semantics and using of morpheme to guess the meaning of buzzwords simply, that are the main type of semantics understanding errors for foreign students. Semantics is the focus of cognition. The background of cultural and a number of semantics are the difficulties for the students.2. From the analysis of the results, the cognition of foreign students about Chinese buzzwords is influenced by external factors and internal factors. The main external factors include the Chinese level, the background of culture, the time of learning Chinese. The length of time in China, there is no significant influence on cognition of foreign students about Chinese buzzwords. And the main internal factor is the many of the semantic of Chinese buzzwords.Finally, according to the results of the investigation and analysis, aiming at buzzwords in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,this research has in the end provided some targeted suggestions from the aspects of setting the curriculum, content of courses, teaching method and students’ autonomous learning.
