Pun translation is quite interesting as well as extremely tough. The study of pun translation is much more developed in the west than in China. This may culturally be due to their different senses of humor. Western culture emphasizes a lot on humor, as a result, translation of humor and other similar rhetorical devices has been studied in a considerable degree. By way of contrast, the study of pun translation from English into Chinese is quite inadequate in China. The representative of pun translation study abroad is Delabastita who has systematically drawn a conclusion of pun translation, which is especially powerful in revealing the underlying concept of translation and may also serve as a guide to translators.In China, researches have been made into this field to a certain degree. Mr. Li Guonan, a professor teaching in the department of foreign languages of national huaqiao university in Fujian is the one that has conducted systematic study of pun translation by classifying the approaches of creating puns in English.Delabastita has made great contributions to the study of pun translation with his systematic pun translation theory, while, there exists problems in the practical application of this theory. Delabastita's theory is based on the study of the inter-lingual translation among the western languages, as a result, some translation techniques may be very popular in the west, whereas seldom used in China. Different use-frequencies of different translation methods is mainly due to the cultural discrepancy between China and the west. Accordingly, what translation methods are mostly used(most suitable) in English-Chinese pun-translation is the problem that is to be tentatively dipped into in the case study of this paper.Through the qualitative and quantitative study on the collected two hundred examples, the author finds out some laws of pun-translation from English into Chinese and analyzes the quantitative data with convincing theoretical explanation.
