The Research Of Self-esteem Of University Students And The Relations Between It And Social Support

The self-esteem is an individual's positive emotional experience of self-value which is derived from constant social weighing and checking. The healthy sense of self- esteem correlates with each kind of positive psychological quality, which plays the vital role in the grows of individual psychology.This article aims at providing some theoriatical and feasible suggestion to those who work for university student' s psychology education and to the university psychology educator, who guides the university students to raise the health sense of self-esteem, by studying the correlations of university student,s self- esteem development and social support and all other factors.1,200 undergraduate students are stochastically chosen to survy. The survey meter is "Self-Esteem Scale (SES)"(Rosenberg,1965) and "Social Support Rating Scale"(xiaoshuiyuan, 1986). The findings indicated:1.University students' self- esteem level is not relate with sex, specialty, whether single-born, parents' educational level, born-in city or in countryside, and economical condition .2. University student's self- esteem level is influenced by grade: the freshman's self- esteem level is lowest, and enhances along with the grade rising.3.The university student's self- esteem level is influenced by the parents' occupation. The self- esteem level of those whose father is intellectual or cadre is higher than those whose father is worker or farmer, and the difference is very obvious. The self- esteem level of those whose mother is cadre is much higher than those whose mother's occupation are others.4. Remarkable correlation is existed between university student,s self- esteem level and the society support. And the higher of society supports level, the higher of the self-respect level.
