Everything in our world, has properties and characteristics that are similar to or different from another. Such distinguishing marks are regeonired thanhks to a process of contrasting and comparing. Due to that process, we regeonize differences and similarities in different cultures, customs, religions, etc.Language is out of exception, too. In order to master Chinese, we should put it in contrast to other languages. Then we study and analyse them so as to draw out common as well as different marks. As a result of this we will know how they differ in grammar, syntax, vocabulary, etc. Once we want to do research on the modern Chinese, we have to put it in contrast to the modem Vietnamese. Consequently, we'll find out how they are similar to as well as different from each other.The grammar in any language, consist of nouns, verb, adjectives, adverbs, determiners, articles, ect. Among them verbs anh expressions.Play a very important role in a sentence. Their grammatical structure is very complicated and diverse. So we, in this dissertation, aim to study and compare the grammatical structure of verbs and expressions in Chinese with those in Vietnamese, especially we will focus on their differences. By doing this, we aim to point out common mistakes that Vietnamese students often make on studying modern Chinese. Not only is this dissertation, I hope helpful to Vietnamese teachers and students in Chinese studying and teaching, but also it is very valuable to later Chinese-Vietnamese language researches.This dissertation includes 4 chapters. The first one is an overview of the modern Chinese and modern Vietnamese grammatical characteristics. The second is contrasting and comparing verbs and expressions in modern Chinese with those in modern Vietnamese. The third is difficulties that Vietnamese students often encounter when studying modern Chinese phrase verb, and the last chapter is conclusion.
