The Studies Of Words Translated By Meaning Of Western Origin In Modern Chinese

Words translated by meaning are to express the foreign concepts or foreign things. They have been borrowed into Chinese in free translation's way. They are significant in Chinese vocabulary. After words translated by meaning entering Chinese, they have produced certain effect to entire Chinese vocabulary system. The studies of words translated by meaning are of great value. The studies not only make people learn a lot in words translated by meaning, but also make us know more about Chinese vocabulary system. But the studies of words translated by meaning are not sufficient. The focus of the arguments is the adscription of words translated by meanings in the academic circle in very long time. But in other aspects, no matter macroscopic perspective or microcosmic perspective, the studies are not sufficient. The thesis makes a primary research on words translated by meaning of western origin in modern Chinese. This thesis covers five fields. In Part One, we give words translated by meaning a definition and sort them into several categories on the basis summing up the predecessor scholars' viewpoint. In Part Two, we have described two translation approaches of words translated by meaning. We have probed multifarious forms of words translated by meaning, and found out the causes. In Part Three, we have discussed the changes of words translated by meaning. In Part Four, we have probed the impacts of words translated by meaning over Chinese vocabulary system from the levels of morphemes, words and phrases. In Part Five, we have discussed the principles and methods of the standardization of words translated by meaning.
