A Report On The Translation Of The Greening Of Asia: The Business Case For Solving Asia’s Environmental Emergency(Excerpts)

The paper is a translation report. It is based on a book which is called “The Greening of Asia:The Business Case for Solving Asia’s Environmental Emergency”. The origin of the source text is “The Sun Kings”, the first chapter of the book. The first chapter mainly tells the whole development process of the world’s largest photovoltaic products manufacturer, solar panel maker Suntech(hereinafter referred to as Suntech), including its establishment, development,heyday and bankruptcy.This translation report is divided into four parts. The first part is a brief description of translation task, including the source of the text and its characteristics. The second part is the process description, which includes preparation, translation and proofreading. The third part is case analysis. By analyzing some typical examples, the report explores several translation methods and skills. It mainly discusses some translation skills and methods of economic terms and metaphors on lexical level. When translating well-known acronyms, we should directly cite those acronyms; When translating terms with fixed translation, we should use their fixed translation. When translating metaphors, we can use literal, free and substitution translation methods. Then, it studies passive sentences and long and difficult sentences and their translation skills on syntactic level. It covers two translation skills of passive sentences, one is “translating English passive voices into Chinese active ones”, and the other is “translating English passive voices into Chinese passive ones”. The translator mainly uses three skills when translating long and difficult sentences. Those skills are “syntactic linearity”, “reconstruction” and “division”.The last part is the summary of the translation report. The report first summarizes some translation methods and skills on lexical level, then on syntactic level. It also analyzes the deficiencies of the translation report. The translator hopes to provide some useful reference for the translation practice of the same type text.
