As one way of international SciTech information communication, SciTech news E-C translation has become increasingly important. English SciTech news translation plays an important role in our country's introducing advanced science and technology from developed countries and improving the SciTech communication between countries. SciTech news E-C translation helps great for SciTech workers to grasp more SciTech information and the SciTech development of our country. With more and more people realizing the importance of SciTech news, English SciTech news and its translation will arouse much attention.This paper holds that Nida's functional equivalence is a comprehensive term concerning almost all aspects of translation. It is due to the comprehensiveness that functional equivalence finds its wide application in translation. The paper applies Nida's functional equivalence as the principle of English SciTech news translation. Based on the study of the linguistic and non-linguistic features of English SciTech news, the author explores the applicable possibilities of functional equivalence in SciTech news E-C translation. This is shown and proven in four aspects, namely vocabulary translation, sentence pattern translation, rhetoric and discourse translation. Thus it is concluded that functional equivalence is an appropriate and applicable principle of English SciTech news translation. Having made clear the value of functional equivalence in SciTech news E-C translation, the author explores how functional equivalence is achieved in the concrete process of English SciTech news translation. It is carried out following the four-step translation model: word equivalence is started with, and then phrase equivalence, sentence equivalence, and ultimately discourse equivalence is achieved.In the paper, English SciTech news is linked with functional equivalence theory which is a new attempt that combines translation theory with English SciTech news translation practice. The paper proposes and proves that functional equivalence is a practicable principle for English SciTech news translation and explores how functional equivalence is achieved in English SciTech news translation. With the guidance of modern translation theory like functional equivalence, translations of English SciTech news are expected of higher quality. The study of SciTech news E-C translation under the guidance of translation theory is of great practical significance for people to learn the advanced science and technology from developed countries.Functional equivalence is of much positive value to SciTech news E-C translation. And what has been done in the paper is just a tentative probe into it. More achievements in this area are expected, by which better and more effective translation theories concerning English SciTech news translation may be produced.
