In the advancement of human civilization science and technology play a vital role and English for science and technology as one of the functional varieties of Modern English has acquired an ever-growing importance and it influences man's life and his use of language. With the rapid development of science and technology, more and more new terms are needed to name new things and discoveries, to define new phenomena, to describe new processes and to formulate new laws.The function of EST is to pass information in different registers and its stylistic features are reflected at different language levels including the aspects of vocabulary, syntax, rhetoric, structure, etc. Use of a large number of terms is the basic feature of EST. With the development of term study, the theory of terminology has been established and some international organizations such as ISO, Infoterm and TermNet have been set up which exert great influence to terminology work.This thesis is an attempt to analyze the stylistic features of EST terms combining views of stylistics and the theory of terminology. Terms in EST also have their stylistic features: the principles of term formation are different from those of common word formation and these principles are greatly influenced by the views of the theory of terminology; new terms keep emerging enormously; the univocity of terms in a specific subject field; the impersonal style of terms and its internationality. Stylistic features of terms also present in aspect of methods of term formation.This thesis consists of 6 chapters. Chapter 1 mainly gives the introduction of the entire passage. Chapter 2 presents the theoretical background of the thesis, reviews the theory of stylistics; stylistic features and stylistic analysis; register and the three situational variables that determine register. Chapter 3 introduces the function of EST as a variety, its stylistic features, the classification of EST vocabulary and the definitions and stylistic features of semi-technical words and non-technical words. Chapter 4 introduces knowledge about terms: the difference between term and terminology, the development of terminology study, the theory of terminology and the relation between concept and term. In chapter 5 the stylistic features of EST terms are discussed. It involves the principles of term formation, the prolificness. univocity, impersonality and internationality of terms, and the methods of term formation. Chapter 6 as the conclusion gives a summary of what has been discussed in the previous parts of the thesis.
