Task-based Teaching Approach (TBTA), a developing form of communicative teaching approach since 1980s, is apparently growing in popularity in China nowadays. TBTA put great emphasis on integrating language learning into language application. It postulates that tasks are the center parts and fulfilling tasks are the main purpose in class. The essential target of spoken English teaching is to foster students' spoken language ability, and according to the theories and principles of TBTA, the process of improving the spoken English abilities lies in the process of completing tasks. In this thesis the author attempts to explore the theories of Task-based Teaching Approach and study its feasibility in spoken English class. At the beginning of the thesis, the author lists different definitions of "task" and presents her own viewpoints, and then studies the theoretical foundation of task-based spoken English teaching (TBSET), task selection effects, principles in task designing and so on to help teachers have a good understanding of this approach. After these, the thesis makes an analysis of the experiment and designs a questionnaire to have a feedback on the use of TBSET. The emphasis of the thesis is on the implementation of TBSET. The author lists three task stages and gives some examples, hoping to give some guidance to the teachers. Finally, the author gives some suggestions of implementing TBSET and proposes the future research direction. :...
