The Chinese character, as a written language, has its model and formation which is a unique kind of visual plastic arts. During the development of several thousand years, it involves a lot of imagination and creativity of the people of the Chinese nation. And it is the combination of cultural concepts and visual thinking of the people of the Chinese nation. With the development of the times, the Chinese character has been a design element which has great vitality and inspiration and an indispensable part in the sound development of Chinese graphic design arts of visual communication.With the real rise of Chinese modern graphic design and establishment and perfection of the art course in the past 10-odd years, the theoretical research and design practice on digging Chinese culture genes that Chinese characters carry in terms of the concepts and methods of modern graphic design have developed step by step. In the meantime, Chinese graphic designers have paid more attention to the digging of Chinese traditional culture consciously or unconsciously, and they have benefited from the Chinese character and its various art forms. In fact, they have obtained some achievements, but the achievements have not been systematic and this needs more people's participation and efforts.Based on the logo design of Chinese characters, this thesis uses plenty of instances of designing Chinese character logos, discussing Chinese characters'thinking patterns of designing, characteristics of formation, implied meaning and connotation, advantages of designing, artistic values and creative application that traditional Chinese character art has given to the graphic design arts of modern communication.The Chinese character is a kind of formation that ancient people of the Chinese nation combined pictures and signs to express some kind of implicit or mysterious emotions and concepts. It cannot break from everything in the world and it is the sign about conciseness and generalization of images, which provides variable space for creativity. If Chinese designers can bear the feature of Chinese characters in mind, and adopt it in a creative way as a subject matter and language medium in the works of graphic design, this will improve the graphic design of Chinese visual communication greatly. However, the Chinese character is just a form we use to design image, and it is difficult to express inner personal experience, like attitudes, emotions, etc. in a perfect way. Therefore, the Chinese character is just a language and means in the graphic design, and what is really valuable is its Chinese traditional thinking of visual design that it carries. It is a kind of wisdom and power of designing in our most intimate emotions and thoughts. This kind of wisdom and power has made a subconscious effect and aid on us through the Chinese character and its artistic forms since the Chinese character emerged. In addition, it will promote graphic design of Chinese modern visual communication.We cannot simply apply the Chinese character to design in a direct way, and that will make our work vulgar.
