Research background: University students are a special group of people who are moving towards mature but not completely mature. Because of the increasingly fierce social competition and the increasing living pressure, together with study competition, career competition, love affliction, economic limitation, interpersonal relationship difficulty, high expectation of parents and other pressures, some university students have overloaded, resulting in more and more prominent psychological problems and the annual increasing tendency. The 21st century needs people with both physical and psychological health, and the intending competition is a psychological quality competition. For training the new qualified person with ability, it is necessary to study psychological health of university students, strengthen psychological health education, and improve the comprehensive qualities of university students.Research Purpose: The psychological health of freshmen was realized, the existent questions was found out and the main influential factors was analysed through the study. Thus it took the pertinent interventions in order to provide the basis for university health education.Research method: In this study, 2315 freshmen in 2007 grade were randomly choosed with the whole cluster sampling method. In addition, the online test was done by using student basic information questionnaires, UPI (University Personality Inventory) and SCL-90 (Symptom Checklist 90).Research results:1. The detection rate of psychological barriers and demographic distribution characteristics.The first kind of psychological barrier detection rate of freshmen is 22.94% and the second is 24.75%. The rate of boys is higher than that of the girls, the rate of city is higher than that of countyside, non-only child's one is higher than only child's one, single-parent family's one is higher than the general multi-generational family's one, the disharmonious family's one is higher than the harmonious family's one, the science major students is higher than humanity major students, low-income families' students is higher than high-income families', the less satisfied with their school is higher than the satisfied, the rate of students coming from significant disease and history disease family is higher than that of the students without the family. The differences are statistical significant (P <0.05). The psychological barrier detection rate of freshmen is no statistical significant in the political situation, student leaders and preferred targets for help.2. The main psychological problems of freshmenThe highest rate ( 12.14% ) is Obsessive-Compulsive in the main psychological problems of the students. The second rate is the terpersonal sensitivity (9.03%), paranoia (5.23%), depression (4.03%) and anxiety (3.95%).3. The comparation of the SCL-90 factor scores and the national constant modelThe factor scores of university students is higher than that of the national constant model (P <0.05), so it has statistical significance.4. The main influence factorsAccording to multiple logistic regression analysis, the factors involved in the model are dangerous ones to psychology health, such as the gender, family atmosphere, school satisfaction and past family disease history.Conclusions and suggestions: Freshmen's detection rate of psychological barriers is higher, there are many psychological problems among them and the mental health is not optimistic. The impact factors for their psychology health include environmental social, family factors and themselves . The school and the community should give them more attention, provide them with the timely pertinent health education, and prevent serious psychological problems and the occurrence of bad consequences.
