The social life of people has had a rapid change with the fast developing and highly competitive modern era of knowledge economy. Meanwhile, the development of higher education and the population on campus of universities in China is so swift that various issues appear. A significant one of the issues is mental health problems of college students, which is more and more obvious. However, the issue can not be completely solved with the traditional Chinese education. Many defects exist in the mental health education of regular institutions of higher learning in China at the same time, which has had an influence on the development of mental health education. Therefore, innovative research and practice have to be carried on in China.The subjects of this research are from Grade 2010, Anyang Normal University. On the basis of great lots of reference and achievements of former researches, the University Personality Inventory (UPI) was adopted, the mental health of the subjects was surveyed, and depth interviews were made with the subjects who had suicidal intention in this research. Kinds of research approaches, such as the literature study, interview and questionnaire survey, were applied into this research. One discovery is that freshmen are generally high anxious about interpersonal relationships and some of them feel lonely. Therefore,655 freshmen were selected and deeply inquired by College Students Active Communication Awareness Questionnaire, College Students Active Communication Behavior Questionnaire; UCLA Loneliness Scale, and Social Anxiety Questionnaire. Another discovery is that college students'active communication awareness is popular, while their active communication behavior is rare and the social anxiety and loneliness are great.In this research, the relationship was analyzed among freshmen's active communication awareness, their active communication behavior and social anxiety. Thereafter the various possible factors of freshmen's case as above were studied.The process of this research is the one to raise, analyze and solve problems as usual. The way to do an efficient mental health education in regular institutions of higher learning was brought up on the basis of the research. The results are as follows. Firstly, define the objects of mental health education clearly. Secondly, change the modes of mental health education, which are to make a general investigation at the very beginning, to educate students in the early period, to do a warning in the middle, and to intervene in the end. The objective of the modes is to build a mental health education in the initiative mode. How to found this mode was interpreted in this research.
