| As the international communication becomes more convenient and frequent with each passing day, news translation is now playing an increasingly important role.The nature of news determines that news English takes on some unique language features of its own. Firstly, to facilitate readers'understanding and also to afford the news report a more local"look-and-feel", news English tends to adopt the specific term in the language of the reported country. Such a method is herein defined as"localization"which poses as a hurdle in news translation and stylistic loss is usually unavoidable. Secondly, whether the news report contains interviews or speeches, colloquial terms usually abound in news report to help create a style that is close to people's life and the masses at large and in turn build a larger readers'base. And in the translation process, the reservation of a colloquial style is the key. Thirdly, due to news'timeliness, news English naturally becomes the hot bed for highly expressive neologism; but such new terms and vocabulary will make it difficult for translators to find the exact equivalents. So the suggested approach is to find the closest equivalent according to their meanings while keeping their expressiveness in mind. Fourthly, because of the political elements involved in news report, news English is more often than not embedded in the country's ideology so it is of vital importance that news English takes into consideration the translator's stand and the translation's relevance to the target readers. Finally, news report often extends its coverage to include the culture of a specific society, which then bring the cultural terms into news reports. Because the cultural terms have a culture's unique features, an interpretative approach could ensure a better communication.This paper aims to discuss the major features of the vocabulary of news English which pose as great difficulties in the translation process, and puts forward possible suggestions and operational guidance.
