News translation plays a vital role in intercultural communication, and trans-editing, as an important and effective translation method, has been widely employed in news translation. Quite a few of researchers analyze news trans-editing from different perspectives based on diverse theoretical supports, which has made great contributions to the study of news trans-editing. However, few articles are written from the perspective of reception aesthetics. This paper is an attempt to apply it to Chinese-English news trans-editing.Reception aesthetics rose as a new force in the 1960's. It was established on the basis of hermeneutics and phenomenology and its representatives were Hans Robert Jauss and Wolfgang Iser of the Constance School. Reception aesthetics, originally a literary criticism theory, is readers-oriented. According to reception aesthetics, the process of reader's reception is the process of their re-creation as well as the realization of the literary work. A literary work is not solely created by its writer, but by the combined efforts of both the writer and its readers. Reception aesthetics sheds new light on our cognition of translation. The perspective of reception aesthetics provides translation studies with entirely new theoretical angles and research methods. It has great influence on translation of not only literary texts, but also non-literary texts, including news texts.By analyzing characteristics and receptive effect of news texts, the author of this paper proposes that reception aesthetics be completely applicable to news trans-editing. This paper applies target readers-oriented theory to news trans-editing and argues that the translator should take into consideration target readers' horizon of expectations, their language, cultural acceptability and aesthetic characteristics. At the same time, the author of this paper suggests some trans-editing strategies and techniques on the basis of reception aesthetics to make the target text more acceptable.Drawing on the previous research findings of other scholars, this paper bears its own individuality in the self collected corpus of sample news from an English magazine Beijing Review, which is authoritative in C-E news translation. The paper tries to explore C-E news trans-editing from a new perspective, however, there remain limitations in the research. More efforts will be exerted in this respect for more enlightening and better findings.
