The History Of Wang Xiaobo's Interpretation

Wang Xiaobo is like a dazzling shooting star in the literary circle in China in the 1990s. He was treated out in the cold when he was alive and his articles were hardly been studied. After his sudden death, his writings swept the country, and mourning articles, commemorative picture albums and commentaries came out thick and fast. After Wang Xiaobo finally won titles of Master outside the Literary Circle and Writer outside the System, he was honored as a cultural hero with the effort of the media and culture circle later. After the worship by the public, some researchers said the studies on Wang Xiaobo were distorted and misread. Wang Xiaobo has been interpreted in a process of being left out, worshipped and corrected. From the trend of thoughts and by studying how Wang xiaobo's writings, minds were interpreted by observers in different periods and how he was idolized and consumed by the public, this article analyses how he was interpreted step by step, the changes of criteria of judging cultural values in every period, and probes into fundamental social and cultural factors leading to those changes. By reviewing the commentaries on Wang xiaobo's writings systemically, the purpose and meaning of this article are to more clearly explain what aspects of his writings are being paid close attention to and evaluated, and further affirm the artistic values. And by reviewing the studies on Wang Xiaobo's minds, it probes into the free and non-free marketizing environment nowadays for literators and correctly defines Wang Xiaobo's liberalism. Lastly, by analyzing the consumption on Wang xiaobo's writings by the public, this article takes a peek at the consuming cultures' influences on society and other fields in the twenty-first century.
