The Study On The Cultural Factors In The Elementary Chinese Intensive Reading Textbook

Culture has been recognized as an important part of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. But there is still no culture syllabus at all, and the researches of culture element in teaching materials are not enough. This article analyses four textbooks of elementary Chinese and summarizes the ways that these textbooks introduce culture factor, and these books are Elementary Chinese Textbook, Practical Chinese Reader, Chinese Course, Boya Chinese, 40 Lessons for Basic Chinese Course and Practical Chinese Reader. Based on the theories of intercultural communication and the relations between language and culture, this paper points out advantages and disadvantages on the introduction of cultural factor in these textbooks, and gives suggestions on how to introduce cultural factor in elementary Chinese textbook.There are five parts in this paper. Chapter 1 the introduction is about the reason of this research, the present situation of cultural factor research, and the present situation of the research of elementary intensive reading. Chapter 2 discusses the importance of elementary Chinese textbook and the role that cultural factor introduction plays so as to emphasis the necessity of cultural factor introduction. Chapter3 categorizes the ways of cultural introduction. There are eight categories of culture factor in Chinese textbook. And the writer studies the methods of cultural introduction in texts and exercises, and points out the shortcomings of the four textbooks. Chapter4 gives the writer's opinion on how to introduce culture in elementary Chinese textbook. There is the list of cultural items in the four textbooks for reference.
