Cross-culture studies has a long history in Western countries, and is also involved in a wide range of applications. In this field, cross-cultural adaptation has been the popular focus. Although cross-culture studies has just begun in China, with the continuous deepening of reform, opening up and booming economy, Shanghai has increasingly look to attract foreigners to come to Shanghai to study or work. Naturally, these special groups'adaptation to the situation in Shanghai has become more and more important and are concerned by more people.In our study, we investigate the influence factores of cross-cultural adaptation of Japanese sojourners in Shanghai, by means of interview and self-report questionnaires, using the definition of cross-cultural adaptation raised by Collean Ward. The results shows that: (1) The cross-cultural adaptation of Japanese sojourners is influenced by many factors, such as personality, host country language ability, social support, and predeparture; (2) These factors don't relate to both two dimensions of cross-cultural adaptation, some are only related to either psychological adaptation or sociocultural adaptation, some are related to both.In addition, this study also include some investigation of the results of cross-cultural adaptation, such as performance and intention to return earlier than planning. The result shows that sojourners'cross-cultural adaptation can influence sojourners'performance in the host country as well as whether to go back earlier.
