Kazak folk songs are songs through the auditory verbal memory and the collective folk songs of Kazakh people, including songs imitating Kazakh folk style or adapted songs based on folk tunes. As an important part of traditional Chinese culture, Kazak folk songs reflect the unique history of the Kazakh nation, folk, character, temperament and cultural traditions, by means of a variety of genres, forms and contents.Kazak people in China mainly locate at the western region of Xinjiang Yili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, and Kazak folk songs are one of the mainstream folk songs in Yili. As the development of economy in China, the social environment and the ecological environment for the survival of the Kazakhs have gradually changed, contemporary Kazakhstan folk songs are also subjected to the impact of multiple musical styles.Music education is a major means of transmitting national cultural heritage. As an important part of Traditional Chinese culture, what's the current situation of Kazak folk music in music education in Yili? Focusing on this, the author investigates music education of Kazakh folk songs in Yili. Based on theories of music education, national education, as well as curriculum, the analysis of the questionnaire on teachers and students, together with the analysis of the interview with teachers and textbooks, the author finds that there exist problems in Kazak folk music education transmitting national cultural heritage. The first is the change of Kazak folk songs. The second is the deficiency of use of the curriculum of Kazak folk songs. The third is the relative tardiness of textbook developments. The fourth and also the last one is weakness of music teachers'awareness on transmission of national cultural heritage.The author tries to explore the implications practically and theoretically on the transmitting national cultural heritage of Kazak folk music education.The present research consists of four parts: chapter 1 is the preface, including basis of choosing the present study, literature review, researching significance and methodology. Chapter 2 is the overview of Kazak folk songs, including the introduction of Kazakh people, the content of Kazakh folk songs, the characteristics of the Kazakh folk songs, and the classification of Kazak folk songs. Chapter 3 is the investigation of the current situation and the corresponding analysis. By means of the combination of stratified sampling and random sampling, and based on theories of music education, national education, as well as curriculum, the analysis of the questionnaire on teachers and students, together with the analysis of the interview with teachers and textbooks, the author tries to find the resources of the problems and explore the implications practically and theoretically on the transmitting national cultural heritage of Kazak folk music education. Chapter 4 is implication and suggestion. The author points out the necessity and the urgency of the transmission of Kazakh folk music education in schools, and proposes increasing the contents of the Kazakh folk songs in teacher education, optimizing Kazakh folk music teaching, and strengthening the Kazakh folk-based school materials.
