Though the contemporary novel teaching should play an important part in middle school Chinese teaching, its theoretical research and the teaching practices concerning it are relatively weak. This paper aims at probing into this matter as systematically as possible, and is divided into three chapters besides introduction and conclusion. The first chapter elaborates the outstanding problems in contemporary novel teaching in middle school. And this paper proposes that the problem should be viewed from the angle of the high school graduate's literature accomplishment, and it is the gap between the literature accomplishment they have and the literature accomplishment they should have reflects the real problem. Viewed from the students subjects, the problems in contemporary novel teaching in middle school can be listed as the following four points: middle school students'lack of interest in the contemporary novel, middle school students'little basic understanding of contemporary novel, the failure to form the ability to appreciate contemporary novel, no character edification achieved through the learning and the expansion reading of contemporary novel. And the Chapter Two focuses on the possible problems in contemporary novel teaching. This paper believes that the reasons of the possible problems in contemporary novel teaching are very complex. Because education is a very special activity field, the contemporary novel has the characteristic of timeliness and the subtle relations between the main stream consciousness and social thoughts, it is also restricted and influenced by various external factors; middle school Chinese is a special course, it is complex itself, we can say that the problems in contemporary novel teaching in middle school are caused by various factors. The problems in the contemporary novel teaching in middle school are mainly caused by the following four factors: Chinese contemporary novel world lacks the correct understanding of contemporary novel teaching, contemporary novel doesn't correctly appear and isn't correctly interpreted in various Chinese teaching materials, and in different times, there is a kind of privation in the Chinese teachers'use of teaching materials and also in their teaching methods. Chapter Three discusses the suggestions about the reform of the contemporary novel teaching in middle school. According to this paper, this reform is a hard and complex task, and the aim of this reform can not be reached in one move; but just waiting and refusing reform is not reasonable, what should be done is to actively look for feasible reform countermeasures, and put them into practice. Based on the reasons mentioned above, comes the following four suggestions about the reform of the contemporary novel teaching in middle school: correct understanding of the contemporary novel teaching in middle school, work out the kinds of middle school selecting texts of the contemporary novel, improve the interpretation of the middle school selecting texts of the contemporary novel, reform the teaching content and teaching methods of the contemporary novel teaching in middle school.
