A Study Of Translation Of EST Discourses From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

In recent years, with the rapid developments of science and technology, international technical exchange and cooperation between our country and other foreign countries in the world have obviously strengthened and increased, especially since China entered World Trade Organization. A great number of foreign documents swarms into China certifying that translation of EST discourses has played an important role in the scientific and technological field. And therefore, EST translators in our country are destined to expose more challenges.Adaptation Theory is performed quite actively as new developments in pragmatics. Most of domestic scholars and researchers apply it to the field of translation, connecting with translation of literature and advertisement, whereas we seldom study translation of EST discourses on the basis of Adaptation Theory, which is the focal point of this paper. Based on authoritative EST translation versions and personal translation experience in EST documents, analysis in depth is achieved from the perspective of the application of Adaptation Theory aiming at discussing about the use and function of contextual correlates of adaptability and structural objects of adaptability in translation of EST discourses as well as drawing the attention from most scholars and related stuff.From the perspective of Equivalence Theory, Functional Translation Theory and Relevance Theory, translation of EST discourses is almost analyzed in the aspects of vocabulary and syntax regardless of adaptation of context, linguistic structure and so on. And therefore, Adaptation Theory is the focal point of this paper combined with stylistic features of EST discourses. First, vocabulary and syntax in target language of translation of EST discourses is simply studied under the framework of contextual correlates of adaptability and structural objects of adaptability. And then, cohesion, coherence and generation of the meaning in discourses are researched on the basis of dynamics of adaptability. Finally, the author combines the previous translation practice in EST discourses and puts forward the confronted problems and the strategies that we can deal with to guarantee the unity of theory and practice. In addition, performing translation criteria strictly and strengthening scientific cultural background of translators promote to ensure that theory is the directive premise of practice currently when globalization speeds up and science and technology make rapid progress.
