As a subclassification of news, features draw more and more attention from readers at home and abroad since it presents the most typical scene vividly for them. Much research has been made in news translation. However, little research into the translating strategies of news features are made, and nobody has studied the C-E translating strategies yet. The three principles of the Skopos theory put forward by the German functionalist Vermeer provide guidance for specific translating activities, and are proved to be applicable to C-E translation of features. This thesis reviews comprehensively news translation and feature translation, then summarizes common translating strategies and discusses their application in C-E translation of news features by analyzing Chinese features and their English versions published between 2007 to 2009 in Beijing Review, and comes to the conclusion that literal translation, addition, deletion, explanation, adaptation, imitation, restructuring and substitution are applicable. This thesis does primary research into C-E translating strategies of features so as to provide reference for further study.
