Intangible cultural heritage includes unlimited human emotions, giving a nation the value of life. With the trend of economic globalization and modernization, non-material cultural heritage is seriously threatened. Some carriers of traditional culture such as a unique language, writing, crafts, and folks are dying. A lot of intangible cultural heritage inheritors are needed. Thus it is extremely important to strengthen the protection of the non-material cultural heritage. The experts and scholars around the world began to call attention to the protection of intangible cultural heritage. What is more, they are also increasingly concerned about the sustainable development of the non-material cultural heritage. Now the consensus is that the tourism development can promote the protection of the intangible cultural heritage, which exploits its value for the descendants.Chongqing, the economic center of Yangtze River region, is located in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone. It also has profound historical and cultural heritage. People of all nationalities not only produced a lot of material cultural heritage, but also created a variety of non-material cultural heritage. Currently, there are still a lot of valuable intangible cultural heritage to be discovered. Meanwhile, we should pay attention to problems of the non-material cultural heritage protection.Today how to change the intangible cultural heritage left by our ancestors into tourist resources becomes a problem. How can we ensure the benefits brought by tourism development while protecting the heritage? This article tells us how to develop the non-material cultural heritage in a sustainable way. It also shows us a practical way to protect the intangible cultural heritage.
