Performance management is the key issue of the research and practice of humance resource management. Rescently many enterprises simply thought performance management was equal to performance appraisal, they didn?t realize performance management was more complicated and important than performance appraisal. It lacks of uniform pattern to direct the? enterprises practical operation. This paper took the method of interviewing and surveying, and developed the HR edition of 搕he questionnaire on the key factors of the performance appraisal process to ascertain the key factors of the performance management process; then, based on the HR edition of the questionnaire, the research developed the employee edition of the questionnaire to explore the cognitive difference about the importance of performance management between employees from different enterprises and different positions, and the difference between the empolyees?desires and the enterprises?practical operation. This paper investigated 152 HR professional persons and 270 employees, and the results indicated: (1) The process of performance management is incarnated by four key factors: object setting, performance controllment, performance appraisal and performance exertion. (2) As a whole, the employees from private capital II enterprises attached more importance to performance management than those from foreign capital enterprises, and they thirst for normative management system. (3) As far as the importance of performance management, there is no significant difference between employees from different position. (4) The empolyees from foreign capital enterprises and private capital enterprise have realized the importance of performance management.
