Comprehensive Measurement Of District's Urbanization Development Level

Urbanization is the tendency of social economic development and an important sign of social progress.from 90's on,many dilemmas faced in rural reforms and developments are directly or indirectly related with urbanization,such as insufficient of domestic market,restructure of rural enterprises,development of the tertiary sector etc.To boost urbanization development is a very important strategy of our country's mordernization in the coming decades. So the indicator of urbanization which reflects the degree of urbanization development level becomes an important scheme target to local governments. Accompanied with the indicator being more and more important, there are many problems should we pay more attention .Because it can not think over it's position and draw up rather more rational scheme from a perspective of the bigger zone which includes itself. What's more, single appraisal indicator which is frequently used to charactize the urbanization development level only can partly show the urbanization development level from some aspect, but not reflect the connotation of urbanization completely.The essay puts forward that urbanization characteristics include six aspects which are economic ,spatial,industry structure,population,living mode &quality,civilization by introducing the definition of urbanization from all parts .Based on the theory of integration of urban-rural areas, "S" curve theory ,centralization&diffusion, push & pull power of migration, center place theory and center-hinterland theory,the paper expounds the connotation of urbanization in detail to seek a series of indexes to reflect it. With the case of thirteen municipalities of Jiangsu Province ,the paper constructs the system of appraisal indicators of urbanization development level from six aspects as discussed above. To appraisal the urbanization development level of the thirteen municipalities by using the method of comprehensive appraisal with many indexes ,ranking and then dividing into five levels to mirror the district's distinction of Jiangsu's urbanization development level more genuinely.
