The 21st century is an era full of challenges and opportunities. With the quick development of high-tech and comprehensive application of information technology, the global economy has gradually transferred into knowledge economy. With the development of knowledge economy, the status of human capital has been improved. The human capital has become the most important production factor and an important ingredient of social wealth. The knowledge workers who hold the key knowledge and technique for company development have been on a good wicket opposite to the company. How to design a motivation mechanism, which fits to the Chinese conditions, becomes an urgent problem for companies after china entered into WTO.On the base of plentifully reading works and articles that refer to the human capital motivation and knowledge worker management, I will discuss the contents as follows:1. Discuss the definition and analyze the characteristics of Knowledge workers.2. discuss the general theories of knowledge workers motivation, especially emphases the human capital motivation theory.3. refer to the motivation methods from the advanced countries; summarize the positive hints for Chinese companies.4. Put forward the procedures and principles for motivation mechanism design; analyze the demand hierarchy and work performance of knowledge workers; mend the Macro demand hierarchy theory and traditional performance valuation system; found the overall performance evaluation system and motivation model.5. As the most important chapter of this thesis, I design a motivation mechanism of knowledge workers that fits to Chinese conditions, put forward the all-around compensation strategy which include reward motivation, benefits motivation, achievement motivation and organization motivation. This system breaks the limits of traditional compensation system that emphasize the material factor and ignore the mental factor. It will have a guide role for the knowledge enterprises that can formulate the effective motivation measures.6. Discuss a typical suit case, integrate the theory with practice, come to a conclusion in the end: Chinese companies must change the concept, insist "human-based " strategy, improve the increment of human capital and financial capital, realize the double-win of knowledge workers and companies.
