There seems no comparison between the ancient Chinese imperial examination system and the system of public selection and appointment of cadres in China presently which are different official-selccting-systems in nature.But the ancient Chinese imperial examination system,existing more than 1,300 years and regarded as the main way to select officials,can bring us some beneficial reference and enlightenment in the system of public selection and appointment of caders in China at present.Keeping such an aim in mind,I made,to some extent,some comparison research in the two different systems in the light of historical materialism.The paper consists of three part.In the first part,the emergence and operation of the ancient Chinese imperial examination system has elucidated and its success as well as failure have been necessarily evaluated in brief,and then both its advantage and disadvantage have been commented upon ,whereas the second part witnesses not only that the comparison has been made between them and special attention has been made to point out the similarity in those areas such as their background of emergence,their apparent feature in their system ,the requirement on the candidates and the method to select officials but also that their difference has been analyzed in six aspects like the selecting and appointing objectives,the examination's procedure and approach,the subjects to be recruited and examinated and the guide thought,The ultimate goal of comparing the similarity and difference between the two systems is to perfect the present system of public selection and appointment of cadred in china.The third part,based on the former two parts,probes into the six enlightenments the ancient Chinese imperial examination system brought to the system of public selection and appointment of cadres in china nowadays ,that is :number one ,the practical examination should be exploited in order to identify talents thoroughly;number two ,its avoiding system (that is ,a system to prevent examinations being implemented among acquaintances )should be taken as a guide in order to strengthen the supervision on the selection and appointment system;number three,efforts should be attached to regular and systematical construction to prevent friend-party arising;number four,the system of public selection and appointment of cadres should be implemented according to their particular characters in different areas appropriately;number five,the system of public selection and appointment of cadres should be regulated with an eye to cut the cost;mumber five ,the development of the ancient Chinese imperial examination system should be taken as a guide to make some the innovation on the cadres.
