The Project of "Electronic Commerce Approach and Realization for Typical Retail Enterprise" is a sub-project of "Electronic Commerce", a Key Curriculum Fund sponsored by the Graduate School of Nanjing University of Technology. It aims at enriching and improving teaching and experiment environments required by the teaching of Electronic Commerce (EC), making them structured and modularized to realize effective transfer of information flow, capital flow and matter flow, developing every function needed for an integral EC, and simulating environment gradually to meet the B2B or B2C modes in modern enterprises. Only in such a way the real business activities can be simulated and realized, simultaneously the goal for training businessmen with knowledge of EC can be reached. In this paper, beginning with the research on the challenges and opportunities brought by EC to traditional retail trade, the detailed analyses of the advantages, disadvantages and wrong areas for traditional retail enterprise to carry out EC have been made. Application of Electronic Information Technology in retail trade can be divided into three stages. The information technology currently used by retail trade in our country only remains at the second stage, that is, the starting and required improving stage of electronic technical support to retail enterprise's information management. When taking active part in supporting stage of Electronic Information Technology to business operation with Internet, the emphasis on strengthening development of stage II is needed. On such a basis, the multi-business operation characters of retail trade have to be analyzed to contrive two general EC's alternatives that can match either chain store, or mart. At present, the MIS/POS systems adopted by retailers mostly are stand-alone or LAN operating software. To beat the odds in the challenge of international trades, Chinese retailers must be clear-minded to recognize the gap between themselves and international giants and be aware of the importance of scope and strength of business in such competition. They should break away from traditional business concept (philosophy), develop proper strategy (tactics), expand capital sources and enhance operating ability in technical aspects of stocking management, commodity distribution, information technology and whole marketing to improve their core competition ability. Under these circumstances, this paper has discussed EC schemes, which are generally suitable for all kinds of retail modes, based on trading, procurement, matter flowing, and supplying and marketing on network.Having made broad investigation of various retail trades, the book trade has been chosen as the goal to develop network station. The reasons are: book trade has advantages of low price per item, easy identification of pseudo-user (buyer), and easy acceptance by most of network-accessible consumers. Under associated impetus fromconsumers, all levels of dealers and IT circle. It has been the trend to sell books on network. On the other hand, book trade is quite typical for EC, and its complicated solutions, which can be used as demonstration model, have covered almost all general flows in EC activities of retail trades. This paper has in detail described the design alternatives and framework design of EC for book selling corporation, and clarify the target, orientation and key points of network construction, the flow of developing items, architecture of system software, software and hardware environments of design and development. Then the basic operating flows of book marketing have been analyzed, the functions of each network have been defined, and according to such criteria, simulative online bookstore with sub-systems of user administration, business administration, seller background administration and market survey has been bu...
