Introduction:This thesis provides an analysis of the"open– inquiry"teaching mode, which analyses the factor of the teaching mode, and then points out the differences between the "open - inquiry" teaching mode and the traditional teaching mode. In order to change the traditional teacher-centered teaching mode in catching and grappling classes of police academies, the author uses group comparison method of empirical research, which aims to make students enjoy the pleasure of learning and the happiness of doing sport in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. It arouses students' enthusiasm and initiative, which cultivate students' creative abilities and improve competitive awareness and teamwork spirit so as to improve the teaching quality of catching and grappling classes. It will cultivate more qualified police for society, and provide some theoretical basis for practical application of catching and grappling classes as well.Methods: In this thesis, literature research, questionnaire, interviews, teaching experiments and mathematical statistics are used.Results: Students have no obvious differences in the level of physical fitness and catching and grappling before the experiment, while after the experiment, students not only improve the level of physical fitness and catching and grappling, but also build up their creativity, probing ability, competitive consciousness and cooperation consciousness.Conclusion: "Open-inquiry" teaching mode can simulate students' learning interest and enhance their learning initiative and enthusiasm. It is helpful for students to grasp the technical skills. It is good for building a communication platform between the teachers and students.It is not only can significantly improve students'creativity and probing ability, but also improve students'cooperation consciousness and competition consciousness.Suggestions: Teachers should make a suitable "open - inquiry" teaching plans, so as not to neglect the use of the teaching mode because of the time or the simple purpose of completing the teaching contents. Teachers should not arrange too much work according to the features of the "open - inquiry" teaching mode, so as not to delay the progress. Teachers should do plenty of preparation before the class, including the facilities and teaching materials, and then create a good learning environment for the students. There are varieties of teaching mode, so we suggest that the teachers should choose the suitable one according to the actual situation.
