Studies On The Indicator System And Comprehensive Evaluation Of Urban Sustainable Development In Chengdu

This thesis, based on extensive and all-round research documents, selecting Chengdu city as study's case, looks insight into comprehensive evaluation of urban sustainable development after setting up an indicator system. Then, with an overall evaluation of the urban sustainable development condition in Chengdu, it makes a series of suggestions to Chengdu in its urban sustainable development from the angle of city plan.First of all, the thesis reviews the contents and definition of comprehensive evaluation of urban sustainable development in China and other countries, and brings a new recognition and boundary of it, which gives the whole background of theories and methods of the paper. On the basis of the requirements of theoretical effects and practical effects, the indicator system of urban sustainable development is provided applying the principles of science, simplicity, coordination, integrity, speciality, stabilization, dynamics and operability. The system has three layers. The first layer includes 3 first-grade indicators, which are sustainable environmental index(En),sustainable economic index(Ec) and sustainable social index (Sc).The second layer has 15 indicators and the third has 32.secondary. Aiming at unifying dimensions of all kinds indexes, the paper makes the standard treatment by the subjection function. The paper gets scores of each index by the Analytic Hierarchy Process and calculates En, Ec and Sc of Chengdu from 1995-2003, by add-weigh model. For the better evaluation of En, EC and Sc of Chengdu, the paper designs 3 indexes, which are Level Index (LI), Sustainable Index(SI),coordination Index(CI), to set up a comprehensive evaluation mode on urban sustainable development. On the basis of environmental, economic and social development data from 1995 to 2003 of Chengdu, the paper draws the development momentum of the city. The results are: Chengdu has maintained a sustainable development, with a strong capability; A harmonious condition now is kept among the subordinating system of environment, economy and society; However, because of a fluctuation in the sustainable ability and coordinative level, more attention should be drawn on it in the future city operation and development.Finally, on the basis of comprehensive evaluation, this thesis gives some suggestion to Chengdu on urban sustainable development from the angle of industry economy, land resources protection, environment protection, building a harmonious society and the management and system of sustainable development.
