On The Value Of Soft Power And The Construction Of Soft Power In China

Theory on soft power is the outcome of the development in international relations theory after Cold War. It changes the tradition which focuses on military and economy power on valuing the power of a nation, and brings the non–material factors such as culture, values into the realm of the power of a nation. Also, the theory holds the view that soft power strengthens or descends hard power. Started by Joseph Nye, the headmaster of College of Kennedy Government in HavardUniversity, learners in international relations turn their eyes on the studies of soft power more and more.The paper concludes the meanings of the power of a nation, the power and the strength, then discusses the sources of soft power, categorizes the components of soft power and states the characteristics of soft power.In the second part, I expound the value of soft power. I point out that soft power is a necessary part of the comprehensive power of a nation. Soft power and hard power are connected but different. Soft power is concerned with the safety of a country. And it is also a part of national interest.After that the paper analyzes the status quo of soft power in China, and points out what the problem is and its appearance.Then the paper offers the strategies about constructing soft power in China. This project concerns both the inner and outer sides. Inside the country, we shouldn't neglect the function of military and economy power, we should reinforce and cultivate politics power, find new resources for culture soft power. The international strategy focuses on culture diplomacy and public diplomacy. First, I state the status quo of culture and public diplomacy, and the weakness is the lack of mass media.At last, the paper discusses the international atmosphere. I believe China should be more involved in international organizations, cultivate new and justice international political and economical order and realize diplomatic international relations.
