The Security Council is the United Nations' most powerful decision-making body since its very foundation in 1945 but it has become failing to reflect the dramatically changing realities of global politics and economy. As frequently criticized, the vital body of the UN cannot be on behalf of the interests of most of its member states. So, to reform the Security Council has proved to be a timely need of the international community and the expansion of the Security Council is believed to become one of core issues. However, the redistribution of power potentially caused by this reform will decisively bring about changes and adjustments of major powers' interests. The conflict of interests unavoidably makes the reform of UNSC extremely difficult.India, one of the 51 founders of the United Nations, has been an enthusiastic supporter of UN aims and played an important role in UN. But India's part in UN has been limited and marginalized during the Cold War era because of the bipolar antagonistic pattern and its embarrassing status in a conflict-laden South Asian imbroglio. With the end of the Cold War, India has developed a strong desire for being the permanent membership of the Security Council, making this aspiration the central goal of its diplomacy.
