As an important international political and economic phenomenon in the international studies, the foreign aid has drawn worldwide attention. Meanwhile, it has become the focus in China, especially under China's foreign policy of peace, cooperation and development and promoting the construction of harmonious world, researching on the foreign aid would be very important for carrying on China's foreign policy and enhancing its image in the world.During the period of Cold War, China provided the foreign aid to countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Africa. The foreign aid showed China's international morality duty and won respect of the favored nations. Because most of the aids were free, so it laid heavy financial burden for China. Of all the foreign aid, China's foreign aid to Vietnam was significant, which lasted for a long time. So it is very important to research on the topic. In addition, international academic circle mainly research on the overall history, but as for the China's foreign aid, they haven't touched on it. So the thesis aims to research on the China's foreign aid to Vietnam with the perspective of national image not only through the history but also through the national image so as to reflect the lessons we should learn and provide enlightenment for the current China's foreign aid.According to the Vietnam War, China's foreign aid to Vietnam includes four historical stages, namely aiding Vietnam to fight against French, Agrarian Revolution, aiding Vietnam to fight against USA and post-war aid. China earned praise for the way it provided with financial support to Vietnam. In Vietnam's eyes, China was a social revolution leader, good example of social construction. However, with deterioration of relations between Soviet Union and China and transformation of Vietnam diplomacy, China's national image in Vietnam gradually declined. Finally, the war between them broke out. We can learn something from aid to Vietnam .There is five parts in the thesis: The first part is preface, which contains three parts: firstly, it discusses why I want to write the thesis; Secondly, I analyze study quo at home and abroad; thirdly, I described the status quo of investigations on this subject and pointed out the advantages and limitations of this thesis. In the second part, I analyze the relations between aid and national image. There was four periods: support Vietnam against French period(from 1950 to 1954), Vietnam Labor Party and Vietnam media regarded China as a social revolution example and China had rich experience in this regard; actively aid to Vietnam in social construction period(from 1954-1964),Vietnam Labor Party and Vietnam media reflected China in rational means, most of the aid to Vietnam against America period (from 1965-1973)although Labor Party and Vietnam media still complimented China, unamiable voice began to appear ;gradually less aid to Vietnam after 1973(from 1973 to 1978).Labor Party and Vietnam media openly opposed China and Chinese image severely deteriorated. In the sixth chapter, I evaluate the performance evaluation of China's foreign aid to Vietnam, including three parts: the first part explains the aim of China's aid to Vietnam; the second part explains the positive effect of China's aid to Vietnam The third part shows the lessons from China's aid to Vietnam.
