Sino-Singaporean Relation After The Cold War

Chinese are predominant in China and Singapore,Singapore has the same language and ancestor as China. Sino-Singaporean relation has a history of several thousand years, can be traced back to ancient Han Dynasty, the two countries maintained close relation until after the Republic.Bilateral trade has been on the rise, it ranks first in trade between China and Southeast Asian for quite a long time.Due to the impact of the world situation and the ristriction of different situations in which Singapore and China situated, The two countries didn't establish diplomatic relation during the Cold War.The two governments did a pragmatical adjustment and adaptation from their differences of comparison in political and economic relation during this time.Singapore Government developed their relation with China actively according to international, regional and domestic changes in the 1990s. the two countries established formal diplomatic relation on October 3,1990, Sino-Singaporean relation developed forward fully and promptly. Singapore increased their investment in china to a great extent,enlarged bilaterial trade, frequent contacts have been maintained among high-level leaders, exchanges and cooperation in science, technology have been expanded increasingly,the cooperation in security field have been developed steadily. The bilateral relation stepped to a new level in the 19th year after establishing diplomatic relation between two countries. The transform from good-neighborly and friendly relations to a comprehensive and cooperative partnership have been come true, all this shows that the development of friendly relation between the two countries conform to the fundamental interests of both peoples.China is different from Singapore in social systems and ideologies, the views on international and regional affairs is not fully consistent with each other.However, the traditional friendly relation between China and Singapore have been restored and developed under the joint efforts of the two governments and two peoples in 19 years. Relation between the two countries have achieved remarkable achievements, can be called model on coexistence among Stats with different social systems in the world. Although the Cold War is over, the Cold War mentality is still deeply rooted in some countries, regional conflicts,ethnic wars and tribal disputes keep cropping up. Therefore, the study of this subject has great practical significance on development of China, stability in Southeast Asia and world peace.This thesis consists of three chapters.The first chapter is written from Sino-Singaporean relation during the Cold War, it focus on the historical background, process and significance of the establishment of diplomatic relations after the Cold War,which create conditions for comprehensive development on relation between the two countrries. The second chapter presents the development on political, economical and cultrual relations after the establishment of Sino-Singaporean relation, and analyzes Sino-Singaporean relation, especially the reason for the rapid development of economical trade relations. The third chapter analyzes the factor that affect Sino-Singaporean relations, which include positive factors accelerating the development of their relation and negative factors constraining its development.
