In the traditional Chinese teaching, narrative writing, argumentative writing and expository writing are called"three writing styles", but in modern society, expository writing is used more and more widely, which has been one of the most practical styles. However, from the reality in middle school teaching, the teaching of expository writing isn't given enough attention to. For example, there aren't sufficient details in the new Chinese curriculum standard; teachers don't know how to teach and even what to teach so that the classes of expository writing are dull and boring. Therefore, students show no interest in such classes—they won't listen carefully in the class, not to say preview or review the expository text. While taking an examination about expository writing, they only leave the answer up to their luck. Despite this, examination about expository writing, as one important part of teaching, is more and more difficult and covers larger and larger percentage. All of these phenomena make both teachers and students feel at a loss. In terms of the problems, from three aspects—"teaching","studying"and"examining",this article intends to analyze the disadvantages of current teaching of expository writing and manage to seek some solutions under the guidance of the new Chinese curriculum standard. Meanwhile, it renews teachers'concept, cultivates students'interest by using multi-media and make testing material and methods more scientific and practical.
