Function in senior middle school,with abundant contents, are always the soul of the teaching of mathematics.It contains function equation, classification discussion, equivalence transformation, number-figure combination and other thinking methods. These methods can also applied to set, inequality, triangle, complex number, geometry and other related contents and it is the base of Advanced Mathematics as well. This article aims to explore the deficiency and questions of function teaching and give some suggestions, thus providing some reference for middle school mathematical in both aspects of theory and practice.Based on the above, the author collects, arranges and analyses plenty of data through questionnaire, documents and materials analysis, and comparison. In addition, by means of investigating the current situation of function teaching in the course of new curriculum revolution, problems are concluded as follows:(1)Function teaching is still for knowledge acquisition, trying to meet the need of the entrance examinations;(2)The process with new textbooks is not expedient, particularly in considering teaching contents and requirements of function, ignoring the motivation of students'enthusiasm fully.(3)In teaching practice, the student-teacher relationship tends to be rigid with little interaction and classroom atmosphere is not very active.In view of the problems mentioned above,firstly the author combines his own teaching practice with much information, making an analysis of the functions of'function': Apart from acquiring knowledge and taking tests, it benefits both application and moral education. Secondly,in order to hold the orientation of the new curriculum,the author compares the old and new teaching goals and materials, concluding that the new one emphasizes practical applications,subjects connections, ability development,cultural inheritance and information conformity. Then how to teaching the content of function effectively is discussed based on logos of new curriculum and characteristics of function and some teaching plans for function's concepts and properties are provided. Finally, The author proposes that new teaching viewpoints and methods should be taken, including a student-oriented attitude and a new teacher-student relationship. And proposals are also made in concept teaching, course bridging, information combining and several special functions.
