Thinking is an important ability that ensures human existence. If there is no thinking ability, human development will stagnate. How to cultivate efficiently the students' thinking ability is an important mission of a school. Although society life will help the students develop their thinking ability, this means has the weakness of contingency and needing much time. So it cannot be the main means. Thinking has the characteristics of indirectness and recapitulation. Obviously, to cultivate students'thinking ability by reading exactly matches with the two characteristics of thinking. Reading is the main source of indirect experience, and highly generalizes the past experience at the same time. In addition, Chinese reading occupies the biggest proportion of all reading activities. So it becomes the main means of cultivating students'thinking ability. But at present, there are still many misunderstandings in the teaching and learning of Chinese reading in China, such as to understand the texts only by consulting the reference books of teaching, and to teach under the orientation of exams. All of these prevent students from thinking deeply and widely. So it's necessary to do new research on the teaching and learning of Chinese reading.
