Health is very concerned and desired by everyone in modern society, because health is not only a prerequisite for one's personal growth and development, but also the fundamental conditions to achieve success and happiness during his whole life.Mental health is also an important component of health. As groups of high-quality and high-level,University Students suffer greater psychological stress and conflict when facing more opportunities and challenges.Sports and physical and mental health are closely related, and the Relationship between them is one of the most hot issues in contemporary research in the fields about international Sport and Exercise Psychology.Sports activities plays positive effects on people's mental health. In this study which concerning University Students in Shanghai, students' physical exercise and mental health are surveyed through questionaires. After using the symptom checklist SCL-90 to survey mental health of 1501 college students, how physical activity can better promote the mental health of college students will be discussed.Through literature study, questionnaire survey, and mathematical statistics,we can draw following conclusions:1. In Shanghai,University Student have positive attitude to participate in physical exercise.To be more precise,74.27% of the students are interested in physical exercise, while the proportion of female students is lower and there are significantly differents between male and female students;Students have various sports choices and there are obvious gender characteristics,programs which are easy to carry out and these without restriction of public space equipment are more popular;In the exercise frequency, different grades were significantly different,One freshman and sophomore students exercise in a relatively high frequency;From the point of view of the duration of physical activity, most people choose to take physical activities in the 30-60 minutes,while students of Grade 3 and Grade 4 exercise comparitvely less. In terms of motivation in physical training, students of different gender are significantly different.Motivations of students in different grades are similar.2.For University Students in Shanghai, about half of them execersise properly, the proportions of intensity for boys and girls are significantly different, and different grades are also different in terms of amount of physical training exercise.By contrast,students of Grade 3 and Grade 4 have generally less physical activities;For the psychological experience after exercise, 81.01% of students feel happy,and psychological experiences for boys and girls are significantly different.The different grades of University Students during physical activities experience little difference.3.The first three factors that influence University Students in Shanghai to participate in physical exercise are:time limitation due to heavy study burdens, the lack of partners to contact, and the lack of space and equipments.4.Students of different genders are significantly different in the overall level of mental health; and the mental health of students of different grades varied significantly.5.For University Students' mental health in Shanghai, students that regularly participate in physical exercise is better than the students who do not participate at all or occasionally participate physical activities;Moderate-intensity exercise training is most effective in promoting mental health;Students who choose to take physical exercise in 45-60 minutes have a higher level of mental health; In a pleasant sense of the psychological experience,students' levels of mental health are significantly higher than those without psychological pleasure in their physical activities.
