In recent years, the rapid development of higher education in China results in the gradual expansion of college enrollment, the increase of college students and the uneven qualities of students. Currently, the new tendency of college development and students'growing demand for personal development require urgently the improvement of the established teaching management mechanism and student educating mode. The traditional concept of personnel training must be reformed and new views on education, students and talents must be established so as to cultivate students in an all-around way. College students'self-management ability plays a fundamental role in the cultivation of students'quality development, and emphasis on self-management ability training is the basis of the improvement of college students'comprehensive qualities. This thesis adopts data studies, which includes collecting data, analyzing and referring the existing research findings. Through the interviews with students, the author looks into the current situation about training on students'self-management ability and seeks out the underlying causes; through the interviews with teachers who are working on students management, the author acknowledges the current situation of college students'management; through participant observation method, the author, who himself is engaged in students'management for seven years in one university, obtains the first hand information about this research by observing students and by discovering problems in students'self-management cultivation. This thesis presents approaches of the cultivation of students'self-management ability through an analysis of the significance and current situation of the cultivation of students'self-management in China, which can help to obtain more attention from the society on the cultivation of college students'self-management ability and promote their all-round and healthy development. This thesis illustrates the problems in college students'self-management cultivation and exposes an in-depth analysis of the reasons from the aspects of Chinese education system, college education concepts, family values and the students themselves and etc. Based on the analysis of the problems and the reasons, the thesis indicates the approaches to the realization of college students'self-management cultivation: establishing the new concept of college students'self-management cultivation; constructing the self-management operating mechanism of college students; creating good campus environment for training college students'self-management; carrying out various social activities to strengthen the joint training among college, society and families. The research on this project will contribute to the reconsideration of the content and form of personnel training and the gradual improvement of college students'various capabilities with the start of cultivating their self-management ability. Students'voluntary self-management, participatory learning and practical activities, and construction of their own knowledge system, can promote the development of their subjectivity, initiative and creativity, enable them to possess good management skills, and finally grow to socialist builders and successors with comprehensive abilities.
