Listening skills have been often known as passive skills. This is misunderstanding, because listening requires learners not only to passively absorb but also to actively participation, and the input and output are equally important. In the introduction, the author states the research objective, that is, to study the value of the application of communicative teaching in training students'listening skill. Communicative teaching can improve students'listening skills and cultivating students'communicative competence and promoting their comprehensive ability. In the second chapter, the author reviews the literature about the research of communicative listening teaching, elaborates the core content of communicative language teaching, and introduces the relevant researches made by the Chinese scholars. In this chapter, the author also analyzes the concept of language teaching syllabus, listening course reform and listening teaching status. In the third chapter, the author elaborates the related theories of communicative teaching and communicative listening teaching and discusses the deficiency of communicative teaching. In the fourth chapter, the author has investigated and analyzed the present listening training of high school students. Through the investigation results and interview, we can reconsider the students'listening problems from all aspects, have a clear understanding of the students'current situation, obtain a clearer understanding of listening nature, find out the insufficiencies that exist in students'listening practice and draw the necessity of communicative teaching in listening training. The investigation results have also confirmed the feasibility of communicative teaching applied in the teaching of listening skills. In the fifth chapter, the author analyzes the listening characteristics in real life, the listening characteristics in communicative teaching and provides some strategies and methods to train students'listening skills. We should instruct the assessment of listening skills when guiding students to listen. In listening teaching, we could achieve good results if we use the above teaching theory and teaching program, the author discusses three aspects of communicative teaching: teaching theory, teaching method and teaching procedure. In the sixth chapter , the author trys to use the above teaching theory and base on causal factors that has devised a new model of listening practice in classroom teaching, which will enable the students to obtain good achievements with plenty of exercises.This model will also help English teachers in material selection and organization.Finally, with some teaching examples in the new curriculum concept, this thesis illuminates the feasibility and the effectiveness of communicative teaching in improving in listening skills.
