With the reform of the education models from the last century, the situation that the graduate generally lack a comprehensive knowledge by the traditional education model has changed for the better.However,gap between the market and the college broadens in new age. The major-setting's comprehensiveness-orientedness is a effective approach to actively meet the need of the development of economy, science and technology, and the development of society.Relevent questions on the nature, characters, question and principle of the major-setting's comprehensiveness-orientedness are analyzed and discussed in the thesis.Due to my limited space and ability, the study focuses on the major-setting's comprehensiveness-orientedness of liberal arts including the humanities and the Social Studies in the comprehensive universities in China. The key issue mainly discussed in the thesis is the analyzing of its status, trends and characters especially the existing limitations of present major system in China are pointed out and corresponding implications for the reform are proposed.The first part of this thesis introduces the backgrounds, literature review, research methods and related definition, which is the beginning of the whole thesis.The following part shows the development of the major in liberal arts from the last century so far. The process, trend and feature of the major in liberal arts are discussed thoroughly in this part.The following three parts of the thesis are the main key part:1) The basis of the major-setting's comprehensiveness-orientedness of liberal arts in China.2) Then, the handicap of the major-setting's comprehensiveness-orientedness of liberal arts in China is pointed out. This part is the base for the next part.3) Last, with the detailed analysis of the reasons for limitations about the major's comprehensiveness-oriented development, the implications for the reform are put forward in the last part of the thesis by the good willing.
