Since the reform and opening up, China has conducted the undergraduate catalog adjust work for a total of four large-scales.The first revision of the catalog was promulgated and implemented in1987, reduced to671kinds of the revised major species from more than1300kinds. The second revision of the catalog was formally promulgated and implemented in1993with504species. The third revision directory was promulgated and implemented in1998, reduced to249kinds of the revised major species from504kinds.The fourth amendment directory was promulgated and implemented in2012and the mojor species was reduced to506kinds from635kinds. The four adjustments of the undergraduate major catalog are inseparable from the adjustment of the number of undergraduate majors and undergraduate structures. In2011, The undergraduate major catalog was adjusted again by the China’s Ministry of Education, and was introduced in2012. The new undergraduate major catalog adds the Arts, consistented with the distribution of the graduate major catalog. All the universities in2013must be in accordance with this directory for enrollment.In this paper, based on the38high-level universities’ undergraduate major setting, analyse the number of undergraduate majors, undergraduate major structure as well as the comparison of the undergraduate and graduate majors of the38high-level universities, in order to explore the current situation and problems of the38high-level universities undergraduate setting. The number of undergraduate majors anslyse the undergraduate major species, undergraduate major points and undergraduate major types of the38high-level universities, in order to explore whether there is a serious problem of repeat setting; The undergraduate major structure analyse the undergraduate major distribution of the38high-level universities in order to explore whether there is imbalance distribution of the subjects;The undergraduate and graduate major comparison includes the major quantity, major enrollment size and major disciplines distribution in order to explore the problems between the undergraduate and graduate majors, especially the inconsistent discipline distribution. The number, major points and major disciplines distribution of the new undergraduate major species are analysed of the38high-level universities in the last decade. Through the new undergraduate major setting of the38high-level universities in the last decade, further explore the problems about the undergraduate major setting in the38high-level universities. This article attempts to explore whether the number of the undergraduate major settings is reasonable in the undergraduate stage and the number of the undergraduate major should be set. Which kinds of majors should be set and which kinds of majors should not be set in undergraduate stage of China.The article also need to exploer whether the university undergraduate and graduate majors should have close relation or not, and what kind of relationship they should have.
