The new curriculum reform advocates the changing of learning methods. There are increasing theoretical researches and practical explorations for web-based project-based learning in information technology-related teaching. For teachers of information technology subject, how to set up the web-based learning environment to support project-based learning has become a topic with practical significance.Being a virtual web-based learning environment, Moodle provides a strong support for project-based learning. This study is aimed to explore the methods to establish the project-based learning environment by using Moodle platform; to sum up the instructional designs and implementation plans for project-based learning under the Moodle environment; and thus to further the promotion of Moodle environment in elementary and secondary education practice with the expectation that it could play a referential and facilitating role in the development of local information technology subject teaching and learning. The thesis is divided into six chapters, namely introduction; current worldwide researches; designs of Moodle learning environment supporting project-based learning; sample design of Moodle learning environment supporting "Shanghai 2 day tour"; sample design of Moodle learning environment supporting"The Century Disaster"; and research summary.Chapter I, the introduction part covers the background, significance and methods of this research.Chapter II, the concepts of"project-based learning"and"Moodle"are first introduced and the current researches for project-based learning, the implementation of Moodle learning environment, and  the researches conduced in China for project-based learning on Moodle platform are then discussed.Chapter III, the methods of designing Moodle learning environment to support project-based learning are discussed through three sections: the installation of Moodle platform; the powerful supporting functions of Moodle modules for project-based learning; and the general procedures to design the Moodle learning environment.Chapter IV & V, based on the discussion in the previous chapter, further studies on the design of Moodle supported project-based learning are carried out with sample designs"Shanghai 2 Day Tour"and"The Century Disaster"combined with the experience from real classroom teaching practice.Chapter VI, the results of this study are summarized; reflection is given to the further implementing of Moodle platform in elementary and secondary education practice; and directions for further studies are defined.
