Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) as a professional degree in the field of education was first produced in the United States. After 80 years of development, the cultivating model of Ed.D. in the American universities become more sophisticated in the world and has been to accept and learn from other countries in the world. With the development of education in our country, the demand for high-level professionals is increased, and the Ed.D. has been set up as the situation requires. At present, there are fewer scholars to study the Ed.D. cultivating model in American universities, I hope this thesis can bring the better ideas.In this paper, the author made a system to collect and collate the literature of Ed.D. cultivation in the USA. At the base of the introduction on the history and development of American Ed.D., the author analyse the theory origin for the Ed.D. setting. By choosing seven universities as research objectives, the author get the characteristics of Ed.D. cultivating model in the United States. Ed.D. and Ph.D. are both awarded in these universities. On the basis of the comparison in cultivate objectives, admission requirements, curriculum settings and quality assessment between the two degrees in the seven universities, we find that there is no essential difference between the two degrees, the Ed.D. has followed the cultivating model for the Ph.D., differences only exist in some specific aspects of the requirements. Deviated from its" original design vision, it also raised the quality of Ed.D. in a range of issues. The admission requirement for Ed.D. is decrease, curriculum and practice is out of touch, and the weak faculties are widely criticized by the community. On the one hand. Ed.D is considered a lowr level of Ph.D., some voice has appeared in academia to cancel the Ed.D. On the other hand, under the U.S. education reform environment, demands on the new ability of professionals in education are increased. Under the pressure of problems and challenges, some U.S. universities began to revision and reform its Ed.D. programs to reconstruction a more appropriate cultivate model of Ed.D.. This paper describes the reform in the University of Southern California and Vanderbilt University, they break through the traditional cultivate path, and build a new cultivate model for Ed.D. This practice has not only become a banner of the professional doctorate reform in the USA, but also apply some more realistic alternative cultivate path for our country.Ed.D. in China is still in the set-up period, enrollment and cultivation in the past year had exposed a number of problems in the situation:our higher education management system decreased the autonomous of the pilot schools, the enrollment and the cultivation are lack of autonomy and flexibility.while with the attachment of academic cultivating model, the current professional degree will also develop the in the awkward position. On the base of study in the cultivation of Ed.D. in United States and in China, this paper try ing to provide some new ideas to solve the problems in our country:Reform the Ed.D. enrollment system and expand teacher recruitment autonomy; built a problems-oriented curriculum and a study cohort; enhance the management of thesis quality and encourage the new dissertation form; strengthen the faculty ranks and build a proper logistical support system.
