| Our society is in a transitional period. The current college students'thought and behaviorpattern reflect the characteristics of our time. How to educate our student, how to make thembecome Chinese characteristics qualified builders and successors, is a very important problemto college education. Carrying out the strategies of cultivating talents for our country,completely constructing well-to-do society and being a winner in this global drasticcompetition is a significant subject to the society. Therefore, for the innovation of ideologicaland political education work in colleges, it's important to improve the research work in thisfield.The article divides into four parts.The first part is an introduction. This part explains the concept of social transitionalperiod, the main content of thought and political education and the background, currentresearch situation, methods and prospect of the innovation of ideological and politicaleducation work. The second part is the theory and principle of the innovation of ideological and politicaleducation work. Marxist theory provide academic source, and the situation of Chinese societythat is in transition period offers a practical bases. The principle of the innovation is describedin the following six fields: political, humanity, progressive, correlation, hierarchical, stability.The third part is problems and reasons of ideological and political education, which isreflected in: old idea of ideological and political education, incomplete content system, notadvance with the times etc.The fourth part is ideas of the innovation of ideological and political education in thesocial transitional period. Ideological and political education should be carrying out anintensive education of Maxism and socialism with Chinese characteristics, focusing on thecommon ideal of socialism with Chinese characteristics, strengthening civic education on thebasis of legal and moral education, and perfecting patriotic education and scientific outlook ofdevelopment.
