The life--long education theory came into being in the 1960抯. Up to now it has been turned into one of the most effective educational trend spreading all over the world which inserts great influence on the strategic decisions upon the educational reforms Many countries have regarded the establishment of life--long education system and the final entrance into a learning society as their aims at perfecting their future educations.Adult higher education is an important component of life--long education and plays a crucial role in popularizing Chinese higher education as well as enhancing the comprehensive qualities of labour resources. Nowadays adult higher education faces a series of challenges, hence how to improve the quality of higher adult education has already become a central problem each adult educator has to take seriously and think about earnestly. In addition, the quality of teaching is the key to all kinds of educations including higher adult education on behalf of existence and development.The elevation of teaching quality revolves quite a few elements such as teachers?academic levels, arrangement of curriculum ,teaching contents and teaching methods together with teaching medium etc. The model of teaching ,as a relatively firm structure growing out of various teaching elements organically, is certain to have an effect on the quality of higher adult education.it is a pity that models of teaching used in higher adult teaching lag behind the ones most foreign counterparts have been exercising in the aspects of either practical utilization or theoretical research. Even in Chinese educational theory circle, the exploration of models of teaching in higher adult education still remain backward in that numerous teachers of adult schools and colleges seem customed to copying models of teaching accepted by middle schools without consideration of the differencesbetween adults and youngsters. On basis of such a situation mentioned above ,the reform of models of teaching in higher adult education will come up for discussion.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part gives general introductions of models of teaching in higher adult education. First the author explains the definition of model plus model of teaching and lists different opinions domestic & foreign scholars expressed about models of teaching . Then the essay defines the concept of the model of teaching for higher adult educations followed by a subtle analysis of its specific characters from teachers ,students and teaching contents.The second part is the examinations of the models of teaching for higher adult education . First , the author makes comments on present--existing models of adult teaching, pointing out their respective advantages and disadvantages including models of the impartment--acception , the learning--instruction , the demonstration--copy and the unit--teaching etc. Second, the author further exposes several defects of models of adult teaching from the whole point of view (1) blind transplantation of middle--school models of teaching. (2) unitary?arid rigid fornis of models of teaching. (3) lack of models of teaching that cultivate creation abilities. (4) stagnant theory research of models of teaching. At last, the author brings about evidence on which teachers of higher adult college choose the teaching models from four respects:teaching objective , nature of subjects a well as knowledge form ,students?development level and material conditions in the direction of reducing unnecessary faults and upgrading efficiency.The thir part deals with the innovaEons of models of higher adult teaching ,which is the key part of this thesis .The author insists that the times background and momentum to reform models of teaching stern f~cm the call for knowledge economy, the propagation of life--long educational theory and the demand on qualities education.adult education should logically be directed at attaching importance to persons and solving problems.
