The teachers' mental health level affects that of the students'. In our country, there is little research on either the teachers' mental health level or its reason ,especially on those of the teachers in rural junior schools in some underdeveloped districts . By choosing 358 junior school teachers in 10 rural schools in five towns as the independent sample; adopting the "Scl-90 symptom measure form"and the self-made "invetigation paper on teacher'mental health reason" as survey tools;using the three methods -measurement, investigation and interview in an integrated way, the aothor made a practical survey to the mental health conditions of the teachers in rural junior schools in Zhangye district.The research results are as the following :1.The mental health level of the teachers in rural junior schools in Zhangye is lower than that of the common pattern in the country, and the difference between them is obvious.(P<0.01)2.The mental health level of the man teachers' is lower than that of the women teachers.3.The mental health level of the headteachers'is lower than that of the teachers'who have never been headteachers.4.The mental health level of the teachers' who have a longer expearence as headteachers is lower than those with a shorter experence. 5.The mental health level of the teachers'in different ages is different.The mental health level of the teachers whose ages are between 36-45 is lower.6.The mental health level of the teachers who have different years of teaching experence is different.The research results showed that the teachers with over 10 years' teaching experence have lower mental health level.7. The teachers who have different levels of education have different mental health levels.The research results showed that the teachers who graduated from normal schools and three-year teachers'colleges have lower mental health level than those who graduated from four-year teachers' universities.8.The teachers who are paid by the town level finance agencies have lower mental health than those who get their salaries from the county level financial agencies.9.The main factors that influence the mental health level of the teachers in rural junior schools in Zhangye district are: lacking of scientic management, low support from the society, lower social position, poor ability in using teaching media and doing teaching research, high expectation from society, unsatisfactory medical conditions and medical health system,family annoyance , non-harmonious relations with leaders and colleagues, poor time efficiency, lacking of teaching and educational theories, too many meetings , persuading the drop-outs back to school, serious living problems , higher sensibility, students'boring of study,heavy burden from work.10.The comprehensive factors that influence the mental health level of the teachers' in rural junior school in Zhangye district are : social factors, school factors and personal factors.
