Women left-behind in rural areas have been drawing wide attention from the whole society in their way of life, physical and mental health and pressure because of the rapid growth of such group. This paper focuses on the mental health of these women left-behind in rural areas for the first time in the background of current rural social security system. This paper takes questionnaires and unstructured interviews to explore the relationship between pressure, social support and mental health status. Through sample survey, it's found that the pressure of women left-behind in rural areas bearing is in positive correlation with their mental health status. The greater the pressure is, the severer the mental health problem is. The paper also found the social support for these left-behind women is in negative correlation with their mental health status, which means the more social support they have, the better their mental health status is, which indicates the social support for these left-behind women is also a factor that affects their mental health. Meanwhile, through the interview, it's discovered that among the rural social security system, women left-behind in rural area focus their attention on endowment insurance and medical insurance, and the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law also affects the mental health in certain degree of these women left-behind in rural areas.At the current stage, the mental health status of these women left-behind in rural areas is on slightly unhealthy degree, but they demonstrate comparatively more serious in compulsion, interpersonal sensitivity and depression. To alleviate the pressure for the women left-behind in rural areas and so as to promote their mental health, more measures should be taken such as developing policies, improving social security, encouraging non-profit organizations and so on.
