Reading teaching is one of the central tasks of middle school Chinese teaching that aims not only at accumulation of knowledge and development of intellect but also at cultivation of abilities, enhancement of mind and building of character. At the present time, however, reading teaching in middle schools attaches undue emphasis upon knowledge of words, sensibility to the text, analysis of the structure and understanding of meaning in the part of the students. The teachers are deficient in innovation sense, teaching with out-dated methods and overlooking the development of voluntaries and reading ability on the side of the students. In view of this, the author of this paper is to make an exploration into the innovation in reading teaching in middle schools.The whole paper falls into three part:The first part is to argue for the importance and necessity of reading teaching innovation as well as its theory basis and its mam task.The second part is to define three concepts: Teaching, Reading Teaching and Innovative Reading Teaching.The third part is to 1) make a study of the inclusion of reading teaching innovations, to argue that for teaching reading, the teacher should be possessed of excellent thinking, innovation sense, the ability to teach different students with different methods and the ability to achieve the goal; 2) set forth the principle of developing voluntary reading ability of the students, the principle of centering the students in teaching, the principle of creating free and democratic reading environment, the principle of combining class reading and out-of-class reading, the principle of making innovations in practice, and the principle of making innovations and differences; 3)commend teaching students scientific reading methods through 'discover and explore' teaching method, in-life reading teaching method, imagination teaching method .regressive teaching method, the method of breaking with stereotypes and diffusing teaching method;4)advise developing the students in their reading ability by instructing them both in preparing , executing, debating and making innovations in ancient Chinese language study, and in asking, thinking, debating, and practicing in modern Chinese language study.
